Volunteers are an integral part of providing services to people who are blind or visually impaired. They take a personal interest that resonates in a spirit of kindness. Their energy and inspiration are the reason we are able to serve so many people who need our services. Without volunteers it would be nearly impossible to maintain the number and scope of classes, programs and services that we offer.

WSB can work with you to provide rewarding experiences, opportunities to help you use your talents or provide training to help you serve people who are blind or visually impaired.

To get started as a WSB volunteer, please fill out the following form

Current volunteer opportunities include:

Community Partners program—Offer friendship and support by “adopting” a WSB client during their time in our community! Community partners engage with clients by spending time together, whether it’s having dinner, going shopping or taking in a movie.

Clerical—Assist with general office duties during normal business hours (Monday through Friday, 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m.).

Receptionist—Answer the phones, greet guests and perform other basic receptionist duties during your shift. Reception volunteers should plan on a minimum three-hour shift during normal business hours.

Tutors—Provide clients with general GED tutoring of math and spelling. We also have a need for computer tutors on a variety of levels. Tutors are needed primarily Monday through Friday, 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m.

Drivers—Clients at WSB frequently require transportation, both during the weekday for doctor’s appointments, and during the evenings and weekends for grocery shopping, recreational activities and more.

Recreation aides—WSB offers a number of extracurricular activities for clients, including visiting museums, attending theater performances, hiking trips, tandem bike rides and more. Recreation aides are needed to accompany clients on these excursions, which occur both during the week and on weekends.

Birthday Party Club—We need individuals or groups to help us celebrate our clients’ birthdays each month! Sign up to sponsor the month of your choice and throw a party with cake, refreshments and other trimmings at the lunch hour to celebrate all the clients who have a birthday in that month.

Volunteers are also needed for on-campus events such as bingo, karaoke and other activities. If you have a special talent to teach clients—from dancing and music to arts and crafts—we would love to hear from you!
